1 Overview

Captain Reef Junior supports early English literacy through short game-based activities that build phonics, high-frequency word recognition, vocabulary, sentence understanding, listening, and early reading comprehension. Learners progress through playful island missions while the app tracks practice, accuracy, mastery, and areas for review.

3b Scope & Sequence

All 6 islands × 5 levels = 30 levels: each level's CEFR band, skill, content focus and the evidence it generates. Designed for early-primary ESL/EAL learners; CEFR-aware Pre-A1/A1 progression; Cycle 1-style foundational English. This is an international early-literacy progression, not an official MOE curriculum map.

4 Assessment Model

• Placement (optional): a short starting-point check can suggest a suitable first island and review focus for each learner.
• Formative, in-play: every answer records accuracy and attempts per word, continuously and invisibly to the child.
• Adaptive weak-word review: words a learner misses are weighted to reappear more often in Review and Treasure activities.
• Mastery tracking: a word is treated as mastered after repeated correct recognition, not a single lucky guess.
• Summative-style review: Treasure Challenge Island mixes every skill as a gentle check of what the learner can do so far.
• Parent/teacher report: a one-page summary of words practised, mastered, accuracy and words to revisit can be printed at any time.

• Spoken audio for every word and prompt (listen-and-tap).
• Picture support for vocabulary, with an Arabic meaning to aid understanding.
• Reduced-motion option for learners sensitive to animation.
• Bold / high-contrast text option for readability.
• Repeated attempts allowed with no shame and no penalty-based scoring.
• Warm, low-pressure design suited to varied learner confidence levels.
• Large tap targets and simple one-action-at-a-time screens.
